Thank you, Sylvia and Joseph. I'm so grateful for you both, for this beautiful breakdown of a poem that means a great deal to me. You both were so in tune to my intentions throughout, and picked up on all of my metaphorical meanings. Fun fact: I am also A HUGE NERD! And I did research the incredible albatross while writing this poem. It felt so fitting for what I was trying to portray, which is transformation, and strength through great struggle. What an amazing animal! Finally, you were right in that I meant my transformation is continuing. I think it always might be, and I'm learning that this still indeed does make for a beautiful life.

Thank you my friends. You have really honored me. I will be eternally grateful.

And you made my husband cry, so, there's that!

I've read this a bunch of times. And all I can say is I am glad you made a substack and we have "intersected" ;)... You're a great friend to us now. It is so refreshing how wholesome you are and how gracious you write. Keep being you Laura. And it is really nice to hear that your husband is supportive of you with this writing stuff. It's honourable. One Love to the Catanzanos.

Laura we love you!!! I’m so glad you enjoyed our breakdown. And I’m soooo happy you’re just like us — nerds for the win!!! It really was so much fun for Jozef and me to deeply discuss and get lost into the world of your poem and also enjoy the beauty of who you are, sharing it all publicly.

I like to think we are all always constantly evolving and transforming…some of us maybe more than others. I think my career is in transformation by this point, so in the spirit of transformation I extend a massive hug to you. It’s so good to be in your company. 🤗

And send our love to your husband, too. I’m glad he was so deeply touched. We sincerely appreciate knowing that we are able to connect on a level like this. ❤️

Thank you for being with us on this grand adventure. 🌞

I love this. Also the way you add little tidbits and facts in your analysis (like the mating dance) is very insightful and makes everything even more intriguing. Wonderful!

Thank you for joining us Tolu! And thanks for nerding out with us 😁 It’s all thanks to Laura who baited us with such a cool poem. We fell victim to the trap she set which was one filled with rich details and layers ensnaring us with ease, grace and finesse. We are honoured to have you share space here alongside us. 💖

I love tidbits. There's a Canadian fast food chain called Tim Hortons that sells timbits, so tidbits remind me of doughnuts for the mind. Thanks for stopping by our dear friend. I remember you ;) Ok, I should take my medication... One Love.

Now, that was an interesting podcast and helped increase my understanding of the “Art” of poetry.

Loved the facts about the albatross and how they were intertwined into the poem.

Stanzas - I have added that to my vocabulary!

And thank you also to the poet.

Mark, thank you for hanging with us! I love that you enjoyed the discussion, and even though I haven’t seen you write/post poetry, I have no doubt poetry is in your soul as you embody it through the rhyme and rhythm of your photography. Interesting to think of the similarities of the two, really. You’re a translator of the poetry of light and shadow. 🌞

Thanks for joining us and being here with us, Melanie! Now I’m curious about the riddle. Sitting with and reading The Rime of the Ancient Mariner was cool, being that it is a lyrical ballad, and I had a hard time holding back from getting into that more with the podcast! The beauty of all the connections and the information to learn from…priceless. 💖

Two men walk into a restaurant where the special of the day is albatross. One man eats it and is fine. The other eats it, steps outside, and immediately kills himself. Why?

I actually solved it once. I had a job doing COVID vaccines where my coworkers and I stood around a lot and did nothing (and weren’t allowed to have our phones out) so we did a lot of riddles and brain teasers to pass the time. I was very surprised with myself! I think I have a poem where I reference the riddle.

I will read the piece in the link but my first dumb thoughts are... Regret for eating an endangered species or he thought could fly because the albatross was spiked with hallucinogenics. I have no idea what the real answer is. I love that you know a riddles that relates to albatrosses. Riddles are fun. So glad you enjoyed Laura's poem and we had a conversation with it that was engaging. One Love Melanie, it's nice to see you here.

deep appreciation, all around. laura’s poem is remarkably powerful / triumphantly becoming, at the same time is delivered so soft and subtly. like the confidence held by a child after whispering to them how great they are for an act they reluctantly tried. this radiates. furthermore, your (S + J) breakdown enhances the experience. your commentary, including the nuanced observations like *no puncuation or initial caps* added greatly to my experience. and geeking out on symbolism like the albatross is certainly educating and deepening. i just want to say how grateful i am for you both to make the time for this intersections podcast. holding someone’s words and truly honoring them (the words and the person) shows the heart’s of gold you both possess. don’t stop.

Pen…where to even begin. My heart is radiating. I love how you summarized Laura’s poem. You really captured her essence all around (in both poem and as an individual). It’s a lovely addition to what Jozef and I spoke about.

What an incredible gift to know we are attracting some of the most wonderfully soulful viewers/listeners to this little fire circle. What an honour. 🙏 We truly love to be uplifting and supportive voices for those around us—just as we love the expressions of the written word.

I’m beyond feeling the simple tones of happiness and joy knowing that others are enjoying what we are doing. It was a gamble and we’re so happy we went all in. Thank you for harmonizing and lifting this vibration with us, Pen. 💛

I had saved this episode to listen to on my Slow Soft Sunday, and it was absolutely perfect. 💛 I could just feel myself slowing down and breathing again through the reading of the poem. It’s always such a treat reading/listening to Laura’s poems. Just like all the mythology and symbolism packed into one bird, every word in this poem is packed with meaning.

And as a bird lady, I love how our feathered friends inspire so many beautiful poems, such as this one. I also don’t mind having more bird facts sprinkled throughout future episodes even if the poem has nothing to do with birds. Bird nerds unite! 😂

Oh my goodness, June! Just the idea of having a Slow Soft Sunday theme in itself feels refreshing. To know that you bookmarked our podcast for that special space in your weekend and day makes me radiate with joy and gratitude. What an honour!

And the gift of reading and discussing Laura’s poem (especially for those who love birds) with all the little background information to go with it just makes it all such a perfect combination. ☺️

I can’t promise we will include bird facts every time but I promise you we will work very hard to leave thoughtful morsels to chew on with every episode we deliver. ❤️
