Kept in the Dark -
Their eyes look to the stars
drawn to the lights
seeking heavenly guidance
But you
your eyes on the ground for
your heart knows the depths
your soul hears her calls
Keep digging. Go deeper.
They want to soar
so they go high
But what of those with clipped wings?
So you go low
retired from fighting gravity
Search the depths to find your meaning
Darkness may swallow you but
she will not consume you
Her canary sings for eternity
Her smile says it all
Leave, let them fly too close to the sun.
Make your mark O unremarkable one
First dwell in the silence of the tomb
Listen for her dirge of closing remarks
the lull of the songs of her womb
the tune of her three timeless truths
The gift of solitude
Death precedes life
You will rise again.
Stay
with your new awakening to the
aches of heart and stomach
the deep groanings of a starved spirit
Darkness is unknown
shrouds of mystery
but at least she will not burn you so
Keep digging. Go deeper.
Scratch
the surface then
beneath six feet under
beyond rock bottom
Diamonds are mined by touch
Longing to see them glitter in the light but
Don’t resurface just yet.
Sink
into depths beyond the
grasps of cords of deceit
where the roots of seeds of discord sown
can no longer reach you
Do you really seek truth?
Shovel
until you unearth yourself
until you are no longer blinded by light's deception
until you grasp the wisdom found only in the depths
It's not so black and white.
Know to stay low
away from the allure of
flashing lights and spotlights
Only when they turn off and
the curtains close and
all fades to black
you shall see the stars again
Then emerge from the depths
illuminated by the midnight candle
Let the moon shine upon you
Beneath her glow you will glisten with
the diamonds adorned
only by those formed by pressure
those unremarkable creatures
who made a killing
dwelling in the depths
