Wow... you guys! You really went there with the philosophy, psychology, and spirituality! You hit the nail on the head with some of the things that inspired this poem. I was definitely drawing from my personal experiences with the groundedness of yoga and viewing the shadow self through a more neutral and empathic lens. How did you know??
For a little more context: the initial inspiration of the poem was the exploration of the darkness of the womb and how it’s possible for life to exist and grow in darkness. The womb eventually becomes a tomb through labor as the death of a previous existence gives birth to a new one. I also enjoy learning about religions and found it fascinating that Christianity’s Lucifer means “bringer of light.” And then of course, I had to draw from Greek mythology with Icarus and general misconstrued fears surrounding Hades.
I’m so grateful for this feature and feel honored that my poem was analyzed by two beautiful creative humans. What drives me to create is the hope that others will be stirred to create. So, just know that I would be the no.1 fan of a poem about white paper and graphite. 😂 Keep filling the world with your art. The world is a better place when it holds your creations. 💛
June...where to begin. You'd be surprised to know how many ideas I dove into when thinking about your poem for the podcast. Mythology, deeper spirituality...even more philosophical and psychological pondering....this is a playground for Jozef and me. But yeah...the 20-30 min mark is our goal with these podcasts so though it seemed deep we tried to keep it light enough. I'm glad we hit the mark. It's cool to know you were even thinking of things like pregnancy and womb/tomb relationship. That was a part of the poem that I did pick up on but it also felt like I was going pretty deep by that point and pulled back to focus on the other aspects that were feeling more concrete.
The world is a better place with your mind and spirit in it--however that passes on we are thankful that it has found a home here with us from time to time. It's our goal to nurture that feeling as much as possible. Thanks so much for your poem and for sharing your inspiration, too. 🌞💖
Yes! Poems are like playgrounds. It certainly would be a challenge to keep these episodes within 30 minutes considering how deep you both can go. Each episode has felt like an invitation to go deeper and get lost in thought in all the best ways. I'm already looking forward to the next one!
i love what you two are doing here. your excavation always brings me a deep appreciation of the words on screen. in this particular case, i’m sitting with the idea that negativity has no place in deep darkness. it rattles the convention of light/dark in all things. but as long as you go deep enough, there just is… love that. what a sense of homecoming to the self in this poem. bravo, june! and for the podcasters… sylvia, you are the bright, positive energy of the canary, cheerfully smiling all the way through. and. jozef, you’re cute too. your innocence is infectious. and rabbitholes like dark ink on light paper. i love it. would a poem reveal different in light chalk on dark board? three thumbs up.
Pen, your thoughtful insight is really great to take in. June did a fantastic job of making us all think deeper. Truer. At the very least she enabled introspection, and what a beautiful thing to enable. Thank you all around for your compliments. I love this idea of light chalk on a dark board--bright writing on a dark background. I meditate every day so in essence I feel like I'm thinking in the void a lot. I come out of meditation filled with(oftentimes) with the most wonderful words for poetry that I need to immediately put down onto paper or type it out before I lose the purity of it. I'm thinking that no matter what darkness we focus our attention we are bound to see the brightness of truth. Thumbs up to you, too--you help make our message and our own curiosities that much more wonderful. 🌞
Hi Melanie! I'm glad you enjoyed it all. The more the merrier! One energy begins to burn brighter with many like energies. Many bright energies can't be ignored. Thanks for being a part of the energy here. 🌞
There was something magical in hearing the lines pass back and forth, as if the light of each word was flickering left and right and back to the core center of the poem 🔥
+ really loved the discussion of going deeper into yourself and how even when we go deeper we still get distracted by the ‘sparkly things’ within ourselves and the noises in the silence ( I really don’t think I’ve ever experienced ‘real’ silence for more than a few seconds ) I’m so glad I had a chance to listen!✨✨

„But you
your eyes on the ground for
your heart knows the depths
your soul hears her calls
Keep digging. Go deeper.“
